| When Parliament decided to disband the New Model Army,
there was much dissent among the rank and file of the army. In 1647
the cavalry regiments started to elect men whose duty it was to
represent the grievances of their fellow soldiers.
A pattern soon emerged of two agitators being elected for each regiment and soon the infantry regiments followed suit.
