She married Charles I on May 1st 1625. She was a Catholic and the marriage immediately aroused suspicion with the mainly Protestant people of England. For the first few years of marriage Charles basically ignored her. (He later became very fond of her) |

| 1642 | After Charles' failure to arrest the five members of the House of Commons, the Queen went in Feb with her daughter Princess Mary to Dover escorted by the King. She was to go on to the Netherlands to deliver Mary to her new husband (15 year old son of Prince Frederick henry) - her real purpose was to sell some of the Crown Jewels to raise money for Charles to buy arms. | |
| 1643 | She returned with Lord Goring in late Feb
to meet up with Charles at York. Charles was anxious to send her to
Oxford where he thought it would be safer. She made it to Newark.
She left Newark on July 3rd escorted by 4000 men via Ashby-de-la-Zouch and Burton-on-Trent met Rupert at Stratford-on-Avon on July 11th. They joined the King on the battlefield of Edgehill and then went to Oxford arriving on July 15th.
