The Internet is a world-wide network.

A computer will need a modem to link to the telephone system. To use it you have to subscribe to an ISP (Internet Service Provider).

Each website on the World Wide Web has a URL ( Uniform Resource Locator) eg www.nasa.com

Each page of a website might have hypertext links to other pages.

When creating a web page it is written using HTML (HyperText Markup Language)

Services available on the Internet :

Email Send messages to other Internet users.
Teleconferencing Communicate visually with other Internet users.
E-commerce Buy goods.
Telebanking Manage banking transactions, pay bills, transfer money between accounts etc
Web publishing Create and administer your own websites for specialist interests, etc...
Chat lines Send messages on-line to some strange people..
Broadcasting Music and video.
Downloading Software, drivers and other files.
