A systems program is a program which helps control the operation of a computer.

Examples : 

  • operating system
  • network software

The systems programs which perform everyday tasks are called utility programs and are packaged with the operating system.

Examples :

  • disk formatting program
  • disk defragmenting program
  • file copier
