Web Browsers
A web browser is software which allows a user to view web pages from the Internet. The address (URL) of the page is entered and the page displayed.

Hyperlinks on a web page allow a user to move to other pages.

Web browsers will display any page developed using HTML (HyperText Markup Language)

Internet Explorer (shown here) is an example of a web browser.

Web browsers
...
  • allow you to store links to your favourite web sites.
  • keep a record (history) of websites visited recently.
  • can navigate back to pages just visited.
  • allow searches for web pages
  • allows the user to save and print web pages.

A temporary 'cache' of recently visited pages is usually stored on hard disk. This means that if the user re-visits a page then it will load faster from the disk cache than if it was downloaded again.
